WritersUA Skills & Technology Survey

The Skills and Technology survey is now underway on WritersUA.com. Submit your response today and be counted!

One note though...

Question 1 asks about the types of output you create, and one of the choices is "Sandcastle". Those of you who use Sandcastle will likely know this, but for the benefit of all, allow me to clarify.

Sandcastle is a documentation compiler for managed class libraries. That is, it's a Help compiler, like MS Help Workshop, but for code documentation. It spiders the source code for an application looking for documentation comments and compiles that information into a Help system that follows the architecture of the API. Sandcastle is used to create both HTML Help 1.x and HTML Help 2.x output, which are two of the other output formats it's grouped with in the survey (redundant, misleading).

So, when making your selection for Question 1 in the survey, I advise against choosing "Sandcastle" since it does not belong in that question's grouping and it will add confusion to the survey results ("yes, X people use Sandcastle, but what do they produce with it, and why did they choose a compiler when they were asked about output formats?").

Wow, it's amazing how thrilling your line of work sounds. :p
Though, mine's not much better in all honesty.

Thanks for the reminder. for the first time in 15 years, I find myself in a job not creating online help of some kind. It's weird.
